Hello! Mother’s Day is coming soon and you’re probably searching through a million blogs to try and find the perfect gift for your own mother, grandmother, or friend. If your friend is a traditional mom who loves cooking and baking from scratch, sewing, crocheting or knitting, decorating her home like it’s an 1800s country home, homeschools, and dresses like a beautiful maiden everyday, then this post is definitely for you. I myself am a traditional mom, and I can promise you I’m not just trying to sell you something useless (no more customizable mugs or t-shirts please!), but rather something your mom, grandma, or friend will not only love but can actually use. Let’s do this!
This post contains affiliate links. While I gain a small commission if you were to buy anything from this post, I want you to understand that these are real ideas that your traditional mother would actually like. No customizable mugs or t-shirts over here! These are pretty, useful things that your traditional mother will actually enjoy.
1. Dining Table Decor
I personally love having all the things to make my dining table beautiful. Beautiful, dainty table clothes, vintage-patterned napkins, old-fashion styled cutlery, earthy-toned heat pads, etc. This is a great idea not just for traditional moms, but also the moms who love to have their home beautiful.
2. Jewelry
I love jewelry, and wish I had more, but as a mom you don’t often think to spend things on yourself, especially little accessories. Money should be put towards other things. But moms like to feel pretty, and it honestly helps us feel good during the day while we’re doing thing. I’m linking a jewelry company down below that makes simple, elegant and vintage-inspired jewelry!
3. Old Fashioned Notebooks & Pens
Whether she is homeschooling, just journaling, having a book for her Bible studies, or just a notebook for quick recipes or to-do lists, having a beautiful vintage notebook with adorable pens make it all so much better. There is something soothing and calming about writing in a brand new notebook with the perfect pen! Or is that just me?
4. Gorgeous Nightgowns
For me personally, I like to feel beautiful even when it’s bed time. I suddenly feel gross and sloppy when I throw on a massive t-shirt and sweat pants to bed. But when I put a night gown on for bed, I feel elegant, timeless and beautiful. Help out your mom, grandmother or friend and get them gorgeous nightgowns for bed! Throw in a bath robe as well!
5. At-Home Pharmacy & Doctor
If the traditional mom in your life tries natural ways to care for her family, this section is MAJOR. These are ideas that a traditional mom didn’t even know she NEEDED! I’m telling you, these will be such awesome gifts to give that not only encourage her, but help her family as well!
6. Vintage Books
Having old, vintage-styled books on one’s shelf is a total traditional mom vibe. Having old books in general are great for the mom who homeschools or just wants her kids to have good books to read. But having them in a vintage-style will make your traditional mom’s heart flutter!
7. Vintage Flower Vases
Mom’s always get flowers for mother’s day, but a lot of times they either don’t have vases or don’t have vases they like. Having cute vases to put in her kitchen, or on the dining table or coffee table will give her home a beautiful natural look to it. Who doesn’t like flowers?
8. Vintage Ceramic Mixing Bowls
If your traditional mom bakes, give her these old-fashioned mixing bowls that will make baking just a bit better! Having a beautiful home is one of the most encouraging things for me, and having pretty things like this help me to romanticize my life and make me enjoy it more.
9. Beautiful Dresses
Does your traditional mom only wear dresses? Let me share something with you that your traditional mom is struggling with: finding pretty and modest dresses that are actually good. From a traditional mom, help your mom out!
10. Bed Sheets
Here’s another thing, your traditional mother is busy. Whether she had a job, or she’s home with the kids, she’s tired and her bedroom is often her only place of sanctuary. Give your traditional mom beautiful white sheets and a natural-coloured duvet covers! Make it nice and soft.
11. Silent Vacuum
Honestly, I hate the loud sound of the vacuum. It disturbs the peace in my home, and I can’t even use it when my daughter is asleep (not to mention how difficult it is to use it with a curious toddler). I had a friend use this silent vacuum and it got me so excited. It picks up the small things and it does work, but it isn’t as thorough as a normal vacuum, of course. But, I’d rather a silent vacuum that picks up a lot, then something that disturbs my own peace.
12. Old Fashioned Cleaning Tools
Honestly, the typical plastic ones are fine, but who doesn’t want to romanticize their cleaning routine with some gorgeous cleaning tools! Yes, cleaning can be beautiful too! Believe me, your traditional mom will love to spice up her tools. Add some natural cleaning solution to really tie the whole gift together.
13. Record Player
Yeah sure, you can buy a speaker, or use an Alexa, or just play music from your laptop, but nothing screams old-fashioned and traditional like a record player! This specific record player is my favourite because it also works with CDs, tapes, Bluetooth, auxiliary, and the radio. But the real treat is in it’s classy wooden exterior. She’ll absolutely love this! (And her modern husband will enjoy still being able to connect his phone to it).
14. Herb Plants & Seeds
One of the best things is cooking away and turning to your little plants to cut off some herbs for your meal. Growing ones own herbs and plants is what defines a traditional mom! Grab some typical herbs for your mom at the local nursery, then pick up some seeds at the same time! She’ll love it.
15. Classic Plant Pots
Here’s the thing, when you buy your traditional mom plants, make sure you have some pretty pots to go with it. If she loves to have a beautiful home, make sure that even the plants she’s caring for have pretty homes as well!
16. Easy-To-Clean Vintage-Like Rugs
Okay, honestly, if you’re willing to splurge a little more, your traditional mom would love this gift! When it comes to decorating ones home, rugs are one of those things that are last on the list of things to buy. Everyone wants one, but it’s always a bigger expense that comes far later. What a nice surprise this would be!
17. Bread Making Tool Set
If your traditional mom is trying to dip her toes in the world of bread-making, make sure she has all the right tools to do so, and make sure it matches her aesthetic!
18. Dutch Oven
I swear by Dutch ovens. They do it all! They roast, they make soups, they fry, and they make bread in them! This is only one of the staples that a traditional mom needs in her kitchen.
19. Grain Mill
This is probably the most expensive item on this list, for the person who really wants to spoil their traditional mom. If your traditional mom loves to be healthy and to bake, getting her own mill is the best thing she doesn’t even know she needs. Make sure to send some grains with it so she can start making her own flour right away!
20. Vintage Picture Frames
I personally can never have too many vintage picture frames. I love to put up my own photos, or put up prints from the thrift store, and having beautiful vintage frames to add to the aesthetic of my home is amazing! Hanging frames is also one of those things that moms just don’t think of and is usually on the bottom of the list for decor. But, help her out! It won’t hurt your wallet too much!
